Saxophonist, vocalist and composer, Fabia Mantwill is increasingly seen as a rising German talent who has finished her her studies in jazz music and performance at the prestigious Jazz-Institute in her hometown of Berlin.
She has been invited to the International Jazz Workshop at Banff Centre in Canada in 2017 and also got accepted for the Dr. Langner Jazz Master program in Hamburg.
One of her biggest and latest projects is a large-scale composition project - the Fabia Mantwill Orchestra - supported by the Senate of Berlin. The program Begegnungen depicts colourful stories of travel experiences through South America, Ghana, East and South Africa, and of personalities she has met, and has been performed in Berlin, February 2017 with her hand-picked orchestra of some of Berlin's finest musicians.
In 2015/16 Fabia was a guest student at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland, and was later invited to the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency at the Kennedy Centre in Washington D.C. - with jazz luminaries Jason Moran, Eric Harland, Carmen Lundy, Eric Revis & Cyrus Chestnut. While in the US she performed at the Apollo Theatre, NYC and on the Kennedy Centre Millennium Stage.
Often found touring with the Fabia Mantwill Quintet and international Trio Moyoni, Fabia is a regular in orchestras LaJJazzO Brandenburg conducted by Jiggs Wigham & the Metropole Orkest Academy (NL) and renowned Swiss electro band YELLO. She has previously toured in the USA, Ghana, India, Canada, Sweden, Greece, Norway, Czech Republic, Netherlands and South Africa.
At age 17, her considerable talents were rewarded with a scholarship to the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy College in Leipzig, which led to further national awards 'Nationwide Competition Jugend Jazz 2011' and the prized recognition of 'Talent of the year' from the German Federal Department of Education and Science. Fabia was later sponsored by Jeunesse Musicales International Brüssel to take part in the 'International Jazzcamp, Norway'.
