The FABIA MANTWILL ORCHESTRA is a unique Signature Jazz Chamber Orchestra with international musicians - led by Berlin-based composer, saxophonist and vocalist Fabia Mantwill.
With this orchestra, she challenges the traditional Big Band sound by experimenting with instruments that are mostly known and used in a classical context. For her, strings and harp are not an addition to the ensemble, but more an integral component of her large-scale understanding of the orchestral sound. In her music she bridges several distinct musical worlds, from jazz to folk to classical music and expands the idea of the orchestra on her record EM.PERIENCE. In June 2021 Fabia Mantwill received the German Jazz Prize in the category “Arrangement of the year” with one of her orchestral arrangements, which was also published on their debut album EM.PERIENCE featuring world renown musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Ben Wendel and Nils Landgren. The Fabia Mantwill Orchestra premiered their first album at Jazz Baltica 2021 and is currently recording their next album. |
