Letters On Leaves is an exciting new trio that’s turning the conventional genres upside down by taking multiple musical traditions and merging them with their love for poetry, a strong connection with nature, deep self-reflection and joyful spirits.
The outcome is a sound that’s emotional yet daring, driving yet soothing. At times, it will comfort listeners and make them go inwards. Moments later, it energizes with an enchanting power fueled by bold, adventurous improvised passages. The openness of each individual musician and the challenging, unique instrumentation of the trio - with voice, saxophone, string instruments and pianos - creates a vast range of new possibilities for artistic expression that involves three-part singing, fugue-like accompaniment, Irish folk song or guitar patterns in the tradition of the great songwriters of the 60s.

THE WORK & LIFE OF CLARA SCHUMANN

In 2019, Letters On Leaves presents a new musical tribute honoring Clara Schumann who would have celebrated her 200th birthday that year. As one of so few female composers during that era she left behind a rather small but incredibly interesting body of work and ranks as one of the greatest pianists of her time.

Feeling that Schumann’s music and life story are still relevant and valuable for musicians and listeners alike, the trio digs deep into Schumann’s work, arranging the repertoire for their unique instrumentation and developing new compositions inspired and based on Schumann’s original work.
With this project, Letters On Leaves present an ambitious, refreshing encounter with Clara Schumann’s music and life that’s looking back to the past and ahead to the future at the same time, keeping listeners on the edge of their seats and eager to listen closely.
